Attention CUO members and communities: there has been an increase in scammers and other fraudsters tricking account holders into providing account information and then clearing out the accounts using peer-to-peer payment apps such as Zelle, Apple Cash, Venmo, and others.
We encourage you to take the following precautions to mitigate and protect yourself from these scams:
- Use strong, unique passwords and never give out your password or Two-Factor Authentication codes to anyone. Credit Union of Ohio will never contact you asking for your password or authentication security codes. If you receive a call asking for any of this information, please hang up.
- If you receive a call warning you about fraud, hang up. If you believe the call could be legitimate, look up the number of the financial institution supposedly contacting you and call that number back.
- Payment apps should be used for friends and family, or people and businesses you know and trust, only.
- Set account alerts if they are offered by your financial institution. Credit Union of Ohio members can set various account and credit / debit card alerts using Online Banking and the Mobile App including purchase alerts and account security alerts.
